Thought to originate in Germany, the variety reached Alto Adige around 1900 and is now grown mainly in the Isarco valley.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Classic Sylvaner comes from south-east-facing vineyards on gravelly alluvial soils containing diorite and quartz phyllite.
