Tasting notes

Spicy and fruity nose with wild herbs, dried pineapple, a little candle wax and pink grapefruit. Juicy and very lively on the palate, with plenty of grapefruit, a hint of sparkle and a smooth, fine finish. Falstaff 95 points.

About this wine

At the 500-year-old Zehenthof in Kammern, Kamptal, the Hirsch family believes the soil makes the wine, so they grow only Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, biodynamically, as wines of origin.

Ried Heiligenstein is a terraced south- and southwest-facing slope of reddish-brown Permian desert sandstone over volcanic rock, about 250–270 million years old, and is considered one of Europe's finest Riesling vineyards. Whole bunches are pressed and fermented with natural yeasts, then aged on fine lees in steel and large oak.

Rated 95 points by Falstaff. Serve at 10–12 °C.
