How to serve it
Tasting notes
Intense yellow-amber colour. Aromas of dried flowers, dried orange peel, apricot and honey. On the palate the two weeks of skin contact give a pleasant tannic texture unusual for a white, followed by a lightly smoky note and a long, savoury finish.
About this wine
The Orange Wine of Villa Melnik is a skin-contact white from the Struma Valley in south-west Bulgaria. It is a blend of 75% Viognier and 25% Keratsuda, a rare local white variety of the Melnik region.
The grapes fermented on their skins for two weeks, after which the wine rested on its fine lees for four weeks. The result has an intense yellow colour, aromas of dried flowers and dried orange peel, a pleasant tannic grip on the palate and a lightly smoky note on the finish.
Serve at 12–14 °C with spicy dishes, aged cheeses or roast poultry.
