Tasting notes

Golden yellow with a fine bead. Aromas of apricot, almond, hazelnut, honey and toasted cereal. The palate is full, satiny and long, fresh and buttery at the same time, with a pleasantly bitter, saline finish that lingers.

About this wine

La Grande Année is the vintage Champagne of Bollinger, the house of Aÿ, produced only in years worthy of the name. The 2012 brings together grapes from 21 crus: 65% Pinot Noir, mainly from Aÿ and Verzenay, and 35% Chardonnay, chiefly from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry.

In Bollinger's traditional way the wine is fermented entirely in old oak barrels, then aged in the cellar under natural cork for more than twice the time required by the appellation. Riddling and disgorgement are done by hand, and the dosage is a restrained 8 grams per litre.

Presented in its gift box, it is a Champagne of depth and vinosity rather than mere freshness.
