Tasting notes
Golden yellow with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose shows ripe red apple, pear and red berries with notes of brioche, toasted nuts and dried fruit from long lees ageing. The palate is round and generous, with fresh acidity, creamy bubbles and a long, vinous finish.
About this wine
The Alexandre family has tended vines in the village of Courmas, south-west of Reims, since the early 18th century, and has made its own Champagnes since 1933. Today Yann Alexandre runs the estate, a little over six hectares spread across nine villages, as a true grower-producer.
Cuvée Noir is built around the black grapes, mainly Pinot Meunier with Pinot Noir and a touch of Chardonnay. It spends around five years in the cellar before release, a long lees ageing that is unusual for a non-vintage Brut and gives the wine real depth.
The style is fruity and round, typical of Champagne led by black grapes, with richness and generosity.
