How to serve it
Tasting notes
Yellow gold with light amber glints and a lively bead. The nose offers ripe peach, red currant, spice, cocoa bean and a gentle smoky note from the oak. The palate is broad, dense and fruity, with a velvety texture, fine mousse and bright acidity leading to a crisp, saline and persistent finish.
About this wine
Louis Roederer, the family-owned house of Reims founded in 1776, produces its Vintage Champagne only in exceptional years. The house describes 2014 as a "waltz of the seasons": a dry, sunny spring, a hot June, a cool and rainy summer and finally a hot, dry September that brought the grapes to balanced ripeness, helped by chalk soils that drain away excess water.
The blend is 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay from the house's own vineyards in the crus of Verzy and Chouilly. A quarter of the wine is vinified in oak casks, adding texture and depth, before a long ageing on the lees in the cellars.
The result is a broad, dense and fruity Champagne with a velvety texture and a crisp, precise finish.
