Tasting notes
Pale straw. A pure nose of citrus, white flowers and chalk. The palate is taut and precise, with fine tension, saline complexity and a dry, clean finish.
About this wine
David Léclapart created his 3-hectare estate in 1998 in Trépail, on the Montagne de Reims, a village planted almost entirely with Chardonnay. His vineyards have been certified biodynamic since 2000, fermentations use native yeasts, and all his Champagnes are released without dosage and with minimal sulphur.
L'Amateur is the entry wine of the range, made from 100% Chardonnay and fermented in enamelled vats rather than oak, so that the voice of the chalk comes through unfiltered.
It offers purity, fine tension and the saline complexity typical of Trépail's limestone soils, a superb introduction to one of Champagne's most respected natural growers.
