Tasting notes

Straw yellow with golden highlights and a creamy mousse. The nose reveals gingerbread, liquorice, meringue, peach, mandarin zest and almond pastry. The palate is rich, chalky and iodine-tinged, with candied fruit, aniseed and crystalline tension leading to a long, precise finish.

About this wine

"Comtes de Champagne" is the prestige cuvée of the independent family house Taittinger, made only in exceptional years: just 42 vintages since 1952.

It is made entirely from Chardonnay grown in the five grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, using only the first pressing. Around 5% of the wine spends four months in new oak barrels, and the Champagne then ages for about ten years in the chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise in Reims.

The 2011 is rich, chalky and precise, a collector's Blanc de Blancs of rare finesse.
