How to serve it
Tasting notes
Pale gold with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens on orchard fruit, hazelnut and dried flowers, with hints of fresh mint and chamomile. The palate is precise and well balanced, combining ripe fruit with chalky freshness, and finishes clean and savoury with a gentle nutty echo.
About this wine
Les Vignes de Vrigny is Egly-Ouriet's portrait of Pinot Meunier, a grape too often relegated to a supporting role in Champagne. The fruit comes from south-facing parcels in the Premier Cru village of Vrigny, where vines averaging around 40 years old root into light, limestone-based soils well suited to the variety.
Grapes are harvested by hand and the first fermentation runs on indigenous yeasts in oak barrels. After the second fermentation in bottle by the traditional method, the wine rests for 36 months on its fine lees before disgorgement.
The family house, making Champagne since the 1950s, is best known for its Ambonnay Pinot Noir; this cuvée shows how expressive Meunier can be in the right hands.
