Tasting notes

Dark, inky ruby. Aromas of blackberry, dried plum, black pepper and leather with a touch of oak. Full-bodied and dense, with tannins softened by barrel ageing and a long, peppery finish.

About this wine

Mavrud is a grape almost never found outside Bulgaria, and it gives some of the country's deepest, most powerful reds. This one comes from the premium AplauZ series of Villa Melnik, in the warm Struma Valley.

Oak ageing has softened the tannins without taking away the character of the variety: blackberry, dried plum, black pepper and leather, in a dense, generous frame.

Serve at 16–18 °C, opened an hour ahead, with lamb or grilled meat.
