Tasting notes

Ruby red with a garnet rim. The nose is intense, complex and almost ethereal, recalling jam, dried fruit and sweet spice. The palate is velvety and soft, with concentrated sweetness balanced by freshness and a very persistent finish.

About this wine

Nico' is the sweet red passito of Illuminati, the Controguerra estate whose history began with Fattoria Nicò in 1890, the winery that gives this wine its name. It is made from Montepulciano grapes selected and harvested in early October, then dried on racks for about two months.

After destemming and crushing, the must ferments and macerates for 10-15 days in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels and another 24 months in bottle before release.

The 2007 vintage offers rare maturity and depth, ideal as a meditation wine after dinner.
