Tasting notes

Pale gold with a fine, energetic mousse. The nose shows lemon zest, green apple, white flowers and chalk, with subtle toasty notes from the barrel. The palate is taut and precise, with citrus freshness, a creamy texture and a long, saline, mineral finish.

About this wine

Les Terres Froides is a single-parcel Blanc de Blancs from R. Pouillon & Fils, the family grower house of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in the Vallée de la Marne. Its name, "the cold lands", refers to the north-facing exposure of the plot, where vines over 40 years old grow on chalky subsoil.

Made from 100% Chardonnay of the 2020 harvest, the wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels, with the wood carefully integrated, and finished with a low Extra Brut dosage.

Cool exposure, old vines and chalk give a Champagne of tension and purity: a rare expression of a single place from a respected grower.
