Tasting notes

Bright ruby. Aromas of red cherry, blackberry, dried herbs and sweet spice. Medium-bodied and supple, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and an earthy, spicy finish typical of the Melnik varieties.

About this wine

Family Tree gathers the whole Melnik grape family in one bottle: the ancient local variety Shiroka Melnishka Loza, "the mother", and its modern crossings, "the children" – Melnik 55, Melnik 1300 Jubilee, Ruen, Melnik 82 and Melnishki Rubin.

Villa Melnik made it for its Rare Varieties series, dedicated to grapes that grow practically nowhere else. The 2019 offers red and dark berries, dried herbs and spice in a supple, characterful frame.

Serve at 16–18 °C with lamb, stuffed peppers or grilled meat.
