Tasting notes

Deep ruby colour. Aromas of blackcurrant and black cherry with cedar, green pepper and a touch of vanilla. Medium to full-bodied, with firm but ripe tannins, fresh acidity from the Danube climate and a clean, savoury finish.

About this wine

Chateau de Val is a winery near Oryahovo, on the very bank of the Danube in north-west Bulgaria. Its Cabernet Sauvignon shows the classic character of the grape: blackcurrant, cedar, green pepper and firm tannins, while the closeness of the great river softens the extremes of the summer.

It is a straightforward, well-made Bulgarian Cabernet with good structure and freshness, made for the table rather than the cellar.

Serve at 16–18 °C, opened an hour before serving, with grilled red meat or mature hard cheeses.
