How to serve it
Tasting notes
Deep gold with a fine mousse. The nose is complex, with red fruit, citrus zest, honey, vanilla and dried flowers over toasty brioche notes. The palate is powerful and vinous, with the depth of old-vine Pinot Noir, a creamy texture, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish.
About this wine
Egly-Ouriet is a family grower in Ambonnay, on the Montagne de Reims, that has been making Champagne since the 1950s, when Charles Egly bottled a small quantity each year for family and friends. Today the estate farms about 12 hectares, mostly Pinot Noir, following organic and biodynamic principles.
The Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes comes from old Pinot Noir vines planted in 1946 on clay-limestone soils with a south-east exposure. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented with native yeasts in oak barrels, and the wine then spends 48 months on its fine lees before disgorgement.
Golden in colour, it combines red and citrus fruit with honey, vanilla and dried flowers: a powerful, vinous Champagne from one of the region's most acclaimed growers.
