Tasting notes

Bright straw yellow. The nose is warm and spicy, with ripe citrus, yellow peach, beeswax, aromatic herbs and a smoky volcanic trace. The palate has a soft, juicy texture and real fullness, balanced by the brisk acidity of high-altitude Carricante, ending on a long, saline, gently spiced finish.

About this wine

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the estate of Marco de Grazia in Contrada Calderara, Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Montalto comes from a small, very old vineyard in Biancavilla on the southern slope of the volcano, a site de Grazia discovered after years of searching for the finest Carricante; the first vintage was 2019.

The vines are 60 to 90 years old, trained in the traditional alberello (bush) system at 900–950 metres above sea level, where full southern sun meets extreme altitude.

The result is a pure Carricante of unusual richness: a white with a soft, juicy texture and warm, spicy aromatics, its fullness balanced by the freshness that only this altitude can give.
