Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow with greenish glints. A fresh, decisive nose of lemon, green apple and white flowers over a clear volcanic, smoky mineral base. The palate is lively and taut, dry and very drinkable, with bracing acidity and a saline grip. The finish is clean, stony and refreshing.

About this wine

Pietradolce is a family winery run by the Faros at Solicchiata, near Castiglione di Sicilia on the northern slope of Etna. Etna Bianco is the estate's everyday white, made from the island's Carricante.

The vines are trained as bush vines in the traditional alberello system between 700 and 800 metres, on sandy soils full of volcanic stone. Grapes are picked by hand and pressed gently, and the wine then matures for four to six months in stainless steel. Nothing is done to add weight: the point is to show the nervy, saline character Carricante takes from the volcano.
