Tasting notes

Pale straw with a fine, persistent bead. The nose shows white flowers, citrus peel and ripe pear over notes of brioche and toasted almond. The palate is creamy and soft, with a silky mousse, fresh acidity and a clean, lingering mineral finish.

About this wine

Antica Fratta is based in Monticelli Brusati, in the heart of Franciacorta, the hilly area of Lombardy south of Lake Iseo that has become Italy's benchmark for traditional-method sparkling wine, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle.

Essence Satèn 2018 is a vintage Franciacorta in the Satèn style, a category unique to this appellation: it is made from white grapes only, led by Chardonnay, and bottled at lower pressure than a classic Brut. The result is a finer, creamier mousse and a silky texture, exactly what the name Satèn evokes.

Long ageing on the lees gives the wine depth and gentle toasty complexity, while the vintage character keeps it precise and elegant at the table.
