Tasting notes

Pale gold with a persistent mousse. The nose shows white peach, lemon blossom and fresh almond, deepening into brioche and chalk. The palate is fine and taut, with crisp acidity, a creamy mid-palate and a mineral spine. The finish is clean, dry and gently saline.

About this wine

Mailly Grand Cru is a cooperative founded in 1929 by twenty-four growers in the village of Mailly, on the north face of the Montagne de Reims. All of its fruit comes from Grand Cru vineyards in that single village, an unusual degree of focus in Champagne.

Exception Blanche is the house's Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay grown on a village better known for Pinot Noir. The cool, north-facing slopes slow ripening and preserve acidity, and the wine is aged at length in the deep chalk cellars before release.

It is a rare Chardonnay from Pinot country.
