Tasting notes

Deep golden straw with a fine, persistent bead. The nose opens on ripe pear, blood orange and quince, then brioche, roasted hazelnut and a smoky chalk note. The palate is vinous and creamy, with firm acidity underneath and a long finish of citrus zest, almond and white chalk.

About this wine

Mailly Grand Cru is a growers' house founded in 1929 by twenty-four vine owners in the village of Mailly, on the northern slope of the Montagne de Reims. Every bottle comes exclusively from grand cru vineyards within the village, which is rare in Champagne.

L'Intemporelle is the house's prestige cuvée, built around Pinot Noir with a share of Chardonnay for lift, and aged for several years in the chalk cellars dug beneath the village by the founding members.

It shows the northern, Pinot-driven side of the Montagne de Reims: vinous and broad, yet held together by the cool, firm acidity that this exposure gives.
