Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow. The nose shows ripe apple and pear with citrus and a stony, slate-driven edge. The palate is juicy and light-footed, carried by elegant, vibrant acidity, and closes clean, fresh and mineral.

About this wine

Sorentberg is a small estate in Reil, in Germany's Mosel valley, founded in 2011 as a partnership between Ivan Giovanett of the South Tyrolean winery Castelfeder and Tobias Treis.

Together they brought a steep, long-abandoned slope of red, blue and grey slate back to life, replanting it with Riesling. Rebel is the estate's fresh and approachable Riesling: half of the juice ferments spontaneously and half under temperature control in stainless steel, and the wine then rests on its lees for around five months.

The result is a pure, lively expression of Mosel slate.
