Tasting notes

Bright straw yellow with golden reflections. The nose opens on white peach, acacia blossom and candied citrus, with a herbal, almost aniseed edge typical of the variety. The palate is broad and savoury, with ripe orchard fruit carried by crisp acidity and a fine mineral grain. The finish is long, dry and faintly almondy.

About this wine

Umani Ronchi has been a reference point for central Italian wine since 1957, farming vineyards across the Marche and Abruzzo. Vellodoro is its interpretation of Pecorino, an ancient native variety rescued from near extinction in the hills of Abruzzo, where limestone-clay soils and cool nights preserve the grape's natural acidity.

Hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature, the wine rests on its fine lees for several months to build texture without masking the variety's aromatic drive. The name recalls the golden velvet of its colour and the soft, enveloping mouthfeel that sets Pecorino apart from lighter Italian whites.
