Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with garnet at the rim. The nose is warm and ripe: black cherry and plum in syrup, carob and dried fig, with sweet spice and a note of Mediterranean herbs. The palate is full and soft, the tannins rounded and the acidity gentle, closing long on dark fruit and a faint bitter-almond twist.

About this wine

Cantine Due Palme is a large grower-owned winery at Cellino San Marco, in the flat, sun-baked country between Brindisi and Lecce. Its members farm old Negroamaro vines on the red, iron-rich soils over limestone that give Salento reds their depth of colour and gentle tannin.

Camarda is the estate's Brindisi Rosso, built on Negroamaro picked in the warm Puglian autumn. Fermentation on the skins is followed by a period of ageing that softens the structure, so the wine arrives generous and rounded rather than firm, with the sun of the south clearly in the glass.
