Tasting notes

Greenish yellow to straw. The nose is gentle, with honey, pear and banana. The palate is powerful, with nutty notes and a well-balanced, fresh finish. Alpine acidity and a mineral, slightly spicy note give it precision and length, with lingering ripe pear.

About this wine

The Abbey of Novacella near Bressanone was founded in 1142 and is among the oldest working wineries in the world. Its Augustinian canons still make wine in the Valle Isarco, the northernmost wine area of Italy.

This Pinot Grigio from the classic line comes from south-facing vineyards in the Bressanone basin, at 600–700 metres, on moraine soils of mica schist, paragneiss and quartzite. It ages for six months, three quarters in steel and one quarter in large 30-hectolitre oak casks.

The result is an alpine Pinot Grigio with more power and depth than usual.
