Tasting notes

Intense ruby red. Ripe cherry and plum on the nose, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla and sweet spice. The palate is round and supple, with soft tannins, good freshness and a warm, lingering finish.

About this wine

Founded by Sergio Zenato in 1960 near Lake Garda, Zenato helped bring the wines of the Valpolicella to an international audience. Its Ripasso Superiore is often described as the little brother of Amarone, made from the same native grapes, led by Corvina and Rondinella.

The secret lies in the ripasso technique: the young Valpolicella is passed over the dried-grape skins left from making Amarone, triggering a second fermentation that adds body, colour and aroma. After ageing in oak the result is a generous, rounded red that keeps the freshness of Valpolicella while gaining depth.
