Tasting notes

Intense ruby red turning garnet with age. The nose offers ripe plum, blackberry preserve and dried cherry, lifted by violet and layered with liquorice, tobacco and a warm spicy note. The palate is velvety and broad, the tannins smooth, with a savoury, faintly bitter finish of cocoa and Mediterranean scrub.

About this wine

Salice Salentino is one of Puglia's classic appellations, a stretch of low-lying vineyard south of Brindisi where Negroamaro ripens fully almost every year and Malvasia Nera is blended in for perfume and softness.

Montecoco is Cantine Due Palme's take on it, drawn from member growers' vineyards around Cellino San Marco. The grapes ferment on the skins to draw out colour and structure, and the wine then rests before bottling so that the tannins settle. The result is a generous, warm-climate red with the savoury edge the appellation is known for.
