Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. Blackcurrant and black cherry from the Cabernet sit over the darker plum and herb notes of Nero d'Avola, with cedar and a hint of tobacco. The palate is elegant and structured, combining the firmness of Cabernet with the lively, drinkable character of the Sicilian grape, and closes long.

About this wine

Cygnus, the swan, is a red from Tasca d'Almerita's Regaleali estate in central Sicily. The name is a nod to Wagner, who finished Parsifal at Villa Tasca in 1881, inspired by the swans on the lake there.

The Nero d'Avola comes from the estate's high hills, where altitude keeps the grape's natural acidity in place, and is joined by Cabernet Sauvignon. After around two weeks of maceration and full malolactic fermentation, the wine spends fourteen months in second- and third-use French oak barriques, so the wood supports the fruit rather than flavouring it.
