Tasting notes

Garnet red with orange hints. The nose shows red cherry, dried rose and violet with liquorice, tobacco and spice. The palate is full and structured, with firm Nebbiolo tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish with hints of tar.

About this wine

Pico Maccario is a Piedmontese winery run by the brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario. This Barolo comes from vineyards in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most respected villages of the appellation, where slopes at around 350 metres face east-southeast.

The grapes, 100% Nebbiolo, are hand-picked in early October and fermented in stainless steel. The wine then ages 18 months in large oak casks and a further 12 months in bottle before release.

The result is a classic Serralunga Barolo, structured and long-lived, that shows the firm, mineral side of Nebbiolo.
