Tasting notes

Deep ruby, bright at the rim. A refined nose of morello cherry, blackcurrant and dark berries, with graphite, crushed stone and a cool herbal note. On the palate it has an elegance that can recall Pinot Noir: fine tannin, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. It will keep ten to fifteen years.

About this wine

Bernard Baudry founded his estate at Cravant-les-Côteaux in 1975; his son Matthieu has worked alongside him since 2000. The Chinon vineyards have been farmed organically since 2006.

Clos Guillot comes from a south-facing limestone slope planted between 1993 and 2000, with clay on top and yellow tuffeau beneath. The wine spends twelve months in oak barrels of two to five years, then nine months in concrete, and is bottled without filtration.

It is the most mineral and the longest-lived of the estate's reds, built to be opened well after release rather than on the year of purchase.
