Tasting notes
Bright gold with a fine, creamy bead. A profound nose of ripe lemon, white peach, acacia honey, toasted almond and crushed chalk. The palate is broad and vinous, with the richness of the warm 2009 vintage balanced by chalky tension, a silky texture and an extraordinarily long, saline finish.
About this wine
Champ Caïn is one of the single-vineyard Champagnes of Jacquesson, the house of Dizy, made from a single plot in Avize in the Côte des Blancs: 1.3 hectares of Chardonnay planted in 1962 on a gentle south-facing slope of chalky clay, sand and chalk over Campanian chalk.
The 2009 harvest was picked on 18 September after a wet spring and a hot, dry summer, with a ripeness the house compares to the great 2002 vintage. The wine was bottled in June 2010 and disgorged in May 2019 with a minimal dosage of 1.5 g/l.
A blanc de blancs from one year and one parcel, produced in just 10,306 bottles and 395 magnums: the purest expression of Avize Chardonnay in the Jacquesson range.
