Tasting notes

Bright golden colour. The nose shows rose, violet and linden blossom with pear, pineapple and apricot, and hints of honey, hazelnut and saffron. Fresh and mineral, with saline, iodine and mint touches; the palate is dense and energetic with a long finish.

About this wine

Château-Grillet is one of the rare French estates that is an appellation in its own right: a small amphitheatre of terraced vines in the northern Rhône, planted on granite slopes above the river. The granite gives the wine a clear mineral backbone that sets it apart from most Viognier.

Rather than chasing exotic opulence, Château-Grillet aims for finesse and delicacy. Made entirely from Viognier, it is a wine built for ageing that reveals its full potential after around ten years in bottle, gaining layers of honey, nuts and spice.

The 2019 is a collector's white from one of the smallest and most historic appellations in France, a bottle to lay down or open for a special occasion.
