Tasting notes

Mature garnet colour with a brick rim. After more than two decades in magnum, expect tertiary aromas of cedar, tobacco, leather and dried dark fruit. The palate should be smooth and harmonious, with softened tannins and a long, savoury finish. Decant briefly before serving.

About this wine

Château La Lagune stands in Ludon-Médoc, at the southern tip of the Haut-Médoc, and was ranked a Third Growth in the 1855 classification. Its light gravel soils, rich in quartz, calcite and agates, give wines of finesse and balance, and since 2000 the estate has belonged to the Frey family.

This 2000 vintage, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot aged in French oak barrels, comes in magnum, the ideal format for slow ageing. Now more than 25 years old, it is a rare chance to taste a mature classified Médoc; a short decanting before serving is recommended.
