Tasting notes

Garnet with an amber rim. A classic cedar nose with a hint of violet, cassis, pencil shavings and tobacco. The palate is full, long and complex, with surprising freshness, round silky tannins and a lingering finish of dried fruit and spice.

About this wine

Château Lafite Rothschild is a Premier Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 classification and has belonged to the Rothschild family since 1868. The estate lies in the north of Pauillac, next to the border with Saint-Estèphe, and its finest plots sit on the Carruades plateau, on well-drained gravel and clay.

The 1990 is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, aged for 18 months after assemblage, mostly in new oak barrels.

It comes from a hot, dry summer that gave ripe, concentrated grapes, and after more than three decades in bottle it is a rare chance to taste a great mature Lafite.
