Tasting notes

Deep purple colour. A dense, fresh and complex nose of ripe fruit and spice. The palate is fleshy and creamy, with thick, powerful tannins and a very long finish showing smoky and toasted nuances.

About this wine

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Second Growth of Saint-Julien with about 80 hectares of vines on deep gravel soils near the Gironde, run by the Cuvelier family since 1920.

The 2016 vintage followed a wet winter and spring, then sunny weather from late June right through to the harvest, between 5 and 20 October. The blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc gives a fleshy, creamy wine with dense, powerful tannins and a very long finish.

It is a Saint-Julien of real depth, made for the cellar as much as for a special dinner.
