Tasting notes

Deep, dark ruby. An exceptionally complex nose of cassis, blackberry, violet and rose with cedar, graphite and sweet spice. The palate is large-scale but not heavy, combining power and freshness, with dense, refined tannins and a very long finish.

About this wine

Château Margaux is one of the four estates ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and the only one to receive a score of 20/20 at the time. Since 1977 it has been run by the Mentzelopoulos family.

The 2010 season was dry from late June until harvest, with cool nights that kept the grapes fresh. The grand vin blends 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot, aged on average 21 months in new French oak barrels.

The estate describes a large-scale but never heavy wine and recommends patience before opening.
