Tasting notes

Dark garnet. The nose offers cassis, blackberry, cedar, pencil shavings and a touch of tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firmly structured, with ripe, fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, classic Pauillac finish of dark fruit and graphite.

About this wine

Château Pichon Baron, officially Château Pichon Longueville, is a Second Growth of Pauillac whose turreted château faces Château Latour across the road. Its finest vines grow on the deep gravel plateau shared with the First Growths, giving wines of power and refinement.

The 2012 blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and is aged in French oak barrels. It shows the classic Pauillac profile: cassis, cedar and graphite framed by firm, ripe tannins.

Drinking well now after decanting, and still with years of life ahead.
