Tasting notes

Light straw yellow with silvery reflections. The nose shows lime zest, orange blossom and a sea-salt note, with hints of apricot and citrus peel. The palate is vibrant, with spicy acidity, a subtle saltiness and a long, mineral finish. A white of real energy and length.

About this wine

The Mazzei family, owners of Castello di Fonterutoli in Chianti Classico, also farm the Zisola estate near Noto in south-eastern Sicily. Contrada Zisola is their white made from 100% Catarratto.

The bush-trained vines are kept at low yields and harvested by hand. Half of the grapes ferment on their skins for three months in cocciopesto amphorae, while the other half is vinified as a classic white on fine lees.

The result is a characterful, saline Sicilian white with real depth, lively acidity and a long mineral finish.
