Tasting notes

Pale straw-green. The nose is fresh and unforced, with green apple, pear skin, lemon and a whiff of sea breeze. On the palate it is light-bodied, crunchy and dry, the acidity bright without being sharp, the lees contact adding just enough texture. A clean, saline finish of moderate length that invites the next glass.

About this wine

This is the estate's classic cuvée and the benchmark by which many drinkers first discover what Muscadet can be. Domaine de la Pépière works around forty hectares in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, certified organic, on the granite and gneiss soils that give the wines their characteristic tension.

Melon de Bourgogne is picked by hand, pressed gently and fermented with native yeasts in glass-lined underground vats, then kept sur lie until bottling in the spring. No oak, no fining, very little sulphur: a direct, thirst-quenching white that remains one of the Loire's great bargains.
