Tasting notes

Pale lemon-gold. Aromas of green apple, white peach and lemon blossom are joined by crushed shell, almond and a light buttered-toast note from the barrel. The palate is fresh and nicely rounded, with gentle creaminess over a chalky mineral spine, and the finish is clean and saline with a lift of citrus zest.

About this wine

Domaine de Montille is based in Volnay and run by Etienne de Montille, who took over from his father Hubert and has steadily converted the family holdings to biodynamic farming while adding parcels across the Côte d'Or.

Clos du Château is a walled vineyard beside the château at Puligny-Montrachet. Although the plot sits within one of Burgundy's most celebrated white-wine villages, its classification is Bourgogne, which makes it one of the region's reliable bargains. Chardonnay is whole-bunch pressed and raised in barrel on fine lees with minimal handling.

Clean, chalky and unexpectedly refined for its appellation.
