Tasting notes

Pale gold with a green tint. A reserved, mineral nose of lemon peel, white peach, acacia and struck flint, opening slowly in the glass. The palate is firm and linear, with piercing acidity and a dry, chalky core that carries real concentration. It finishes long and austere, saline and faintly bitter in the best Chablis manner.

About this wine

Côte de Léchet is one of the steepest Premier Cru slopes in Chablis, rising sharply above the village of Milly on the left bank of the Serein. Its thin layer of soil over hard Kimmeridgian limestone gives wines of real cut and nerve.

Domaine des Malandes has farmed here for decades and treats the site with restraint: whole-bunch pressing, fermentation in stainless steel and ageing on the fine lees, with no new oak. The aim is transparency, letting the austerity and salinity of this cru speak without cosmetic sweetness or vanilla.
