Tasting notes

Mature golden yellow. The bouquet is tertiary and complex: dried citrus, beeswax, toasted hazelnut, mushroom and a persistent smoky mineral note. On the palate it is broad yet still firmly acidic, with a waxy, almost oily texture over a stony core. The finish is long, dry and savoury, closing on almond and crushed shell.

About this wine

Tour du Roy is Domaine des Malandes' old-vine selection within the Chablis appellation, drawn from the estate's oldest parcels on Kimmeridgian limestone around the town itself. It is made only in vintages the family judges worthy of it.

Vinified in stainless steel and matured at length on the fine lees, the wine is designed for the cellar rather than for immediate drinking. More than a decade on, it shows how well classic unoaked Chablis ages: the fruit has turned savoury and the minerality has moved from sharp edge to deep structure.
