Tasting notes

Bright straw yellow. The nose is firmly mineral and volcanic, with citrus, white flowers and a smoky, ashy note typical of high-altitude Etna. The palate is rich yet supple, with taut acidity, a saline core and real depth. A long, stony finish with clear potential to develop in bottle.

About this wine

Pietradolce is the Faro family's winery at Solicchiata, near Castiglione di Sicilia on the northern flank of Etna. Archineri is its white from Carricante grown in contrada Caselle above Milo, on the volcano's eastern side at around 850 metres.

The vines there are pre-phylloxera, trained as bush vines in the old alberello fashion, and some are approaching 150 years old. Soils are sandy and full of volcanic stone, and the fruit is picked by hand in October. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, after which the wine spends a further twelve months in bottle before release.
