How to serve it
Tasting notes
Pale straw yellow. The nose brings fresh pear and citrus alongside a note of honey, with fine nutty touches of hazelnut and walnut behind them. The palate is balanced and dry, appetising acidity carrying crisp orchard fruit, and the finish is clean with a faint almond bitterness.
About this wine
Produttori di Manduria is a historic cooperative founded in 1932 in Manduria, in the Salento, and its reputation rests above all on Primitivo — the grape the town gave its name to.
This Fiano shows the other side of the house. Fiano is one of southern Italy's great white varieties, capable of real aromatic depth without needing oak, and here it is handled plainly: fermentation and ageing in stainless steel, nothing to obscure the fruit. In the flat, maritime vineyards of the Salento it ripens easily while the sea air keeps enough acidity in the grapes to hold the wine together.
The result is a dry white with more substance than the price suggests.
