Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose combines herbaceous hints with ripe red berries and sweet spice from the oak. The palate is warm, smooth and well balanced, with polished, well-judged tannins and a long, persistent finish.

About this wine

Fusco is La Roncaia's single-varietal Merlot from the Friuli Colli Orientali, the hill country of north-eastern Italy. The estate, acquired by the Fantinel family in 1998, farms vineyards around Ramandolo, Nimis, Attimis and Tarcento on marl and sandstone soils.

Part of the harvest is left to dry for about eight weeks after picking, concentrating sugars and aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by around 36 months in barrique and further ageing in bottle before release.

The result is a warm, smooth and generous red with balanced tannins, built to develop in the cellar and to accompany rich meat dishes.
