Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow with a greenish tinge. The nose is harmonious and delicately floral, with mineral notes, green pear, green apple and white flowers. The palate is rich and broad, with citrus and pear and a fresh, clean finish. Lees ageing adds a gentle creaminess and good length.

About this wine

La Scolca is a family estate in Gavi, in south-eastern Piedmont, where four generations have devoted themselves to the Cortese grape and helped build the reputation of the appellation. "Villa Scolca" comes from the historic vineyards surrounding the villa at the heart of the estate.

The vines are 15 to 20 years old. A traditional vinification at controlled temperature is followed by a period on the lees, which gives the wine extra depth and aromatic breadth compared with a classic Gavi.

It is a rich yet fresh Cortese that works throughout a meal.
