Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. A broad, fruity nose of blackcurrant and blackberry with a spicy finish of cedar and pepper. The palate is enveloping and elegant, with long, persistent tannins and a lingering finish. Serve slightly below room temperature in a large glass, letting it breathe briefly to reveal its full aromatic range.

About this wine

Isole e Olena, founded in 1956 by Francesco De Marchi, became one of the leaders of the modern quality revival of Chianti Classico under his son Paolo, who took over in 1976. This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from about 3 hectares of vines more than 20 years old and is made in small quantities.

The vineyards lie at 300-400 metres facing south and south-west, on marly schist and limestone. After fermentation in stainless steel the wine spends about 12 months in barriques, one third each new, second and third use, followed by about two years in bottle before release.
