Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose shows ripe cherry, plum and blackcurrant with violet, tobacco and gentle oak spice. The palate is full and juicy, with Sangiovese freshness balancing the rich fruit of the Bordeaux varieties, firm but polished tannins and a long, savoury finish.

About this wine

"La Massa" is the signature wine of Tenuta La Massa in Panzano in Chianti, an estate of 25 hectares of vines set in the natural amphitheatre of the Conca d'Oro, where winemaking has been recorded since the 15th century. Since 1992 it has been run by Giampaolo Motta.

The blend joins the freshness and minerality of Sangiovese (about 70%) with the depth of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Alicante Bouschet, aged in French barriques of which only 10% are new.

The 2017 vintage was the first made entirely in the estate's new cellar, and here it comes in magnum, a format that lets the wine age slowly and gracefully.
