Tasting notes

Pale straw yellow moving towards gold. The nose is fresh and enveloping, with iodine and sea-salt notes balanced by flowers and sweet orchard fruit. The palate is creamy, rich and warm, with a sweet-fruited impression kept in check by freshness and a pleasant acidity on the close.

About this wine

Schiopetto is a historic estate in Capriva del Friuli, founded by Mario Schiopetto in 1965 and run today by the Rotolo family. Mario Schiopetto is widely credited with shaping the modern Friulian white, and the estate remains a benchmark for the Collio hills.

Malvasia Istriana is at its best on the poor marl soils and warm, sunny slopes of Collio, and the grapes are picked by hand after a long ripening. The first vintage of this wine dates from 1974. Fermentation and eight months of ageing take place in stainless steel, with cold pressing and settling carried out without added sulphur dioxide.
