Tasting notes

Deep garnet, dense in the glass. The nose is layered, with blackcurrant, cedar, dried herbs and a graphite note that comes with air. The palate is firm and structured, the tannins fine but still tight, carrying dark fruit over a cool, mineral spine. The finish is long and savoury. Decant an hour ahead.

About this wine

Mas de Daumas Gassac was founded in 1970 by Véronique and Aimé Guibert in the Languedoc, near Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. The geologist Henri Enjalbert, a friend of the family, judged the glacial soil of the valley capable of Grand Cru quality, and the first vines went in two years later.

The red is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, filled out with Pinot Noir, Tannat, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and a share of rare red varieties planted in small parcels. It is fermented in concrete and aged in barrel, and the cool microclimate of the valley keeps the harvest late and the wine fresh.

It is often called the Lafite of the Languedoc.
