Tasting notes

Ruby red with bright highlights. Cherry, small red fruits, tobacco, liquorice and black pepper fill the nose. The palate is velvety and balanced, with ripe, elegant tannins, good freshness and a lively, peppery finish that keeps the wine from feeling heavy.

About this wine

Schiopetto sits in Capriva del Friuli, in the Collio hills, and is bound up with the name of Mario Schiopetto, who from 1965 onwards laid the foundations of contemporary Friulian wine. The estate has belonged to the Rotolo family since 2014.

Rivarossa is named after a parcel of the estate with clay-sand soils, and its first vintage was 1968. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon ferment separately, then the wine spends fourteen months in oak casks after malolactic fermentation. This magnum holds 1.5 litres, a format that ages more slowly and suits a festive table.
